Trust in Luton Press Release
Massive response to Trust in Luton leaflet drop
The supporters’ response to leaflets given out by Trust in Luton at Saturday’s home game against Nottingham Forest has overwhelmed Trust in Luton, says its Chairman Liam Day. Within 24 hours the Trust had over 2000 hits on their website, www.trustinluton.org
“After a great game where the team put in a fine performance to win 2-1, our website was swamped. We are just starting to get to grips with literally hundreds of messages and enquiries. We knew feelings were strong amongst supporters but we never thought it would be this immediate”.
Liam continued, “I'm amazed that the Club has responded by promising to answer questions directed at our fellow supporters within a few days when they have declined to answer direct questions from a shareholder for five months. I really hope that this time they give proper answers and don’t trot out the same old excuses, accusations and misleading statements.”
“We see it as our duty, as shareholders and fans’ representative, to bring these issues into the open. Fans are thanking us for putting the issues into perspective and giving them food for thought so they can decide for themselves. Fans can see that what we have all been told just does not stack up - the Board of the Club don’t appear to have a grasp on the real financial situation at the Club and yet they keep approving increases to the Club’s cost base. In most businesses this is a recipe for disaster. We want the people who are responsible for this to be held to account.”
Liam reiterated that TiL is happy to engage as many fans as possible whether they agree with TiL or not. “Open debate and differing views is what makes this game of football so fantastic. However we really are fed up of appearing to moan all the time, so for all our volunteers who work ceaselessly on behalf of the fans, the response is a real shot in the arm and I’ve never seen them so motivated. I would also like to publicly thank all those volunteers that provided much needed help on the day”.
The leaflet issued by the Trust stated public comments made by various Club Board representatives over the past 12 months. It shows how statements about financial losses and the proposed new stadium costs keep escalating and appear to be out of control.
