Trust in Luton Press Release MANAGER VOTE AND MEETING
The Trust in Luton Committee today welcomed the news that a new manager has been appointed. Although they have made clear our reservations about the way in which he has been selected through a phone poll, as fans they wish Mike Newell every success in his role.
However, the Committee still advise supporters NOT TO RENEW SEASON TICKETS OR COMMERCIAL SPONSORSHIPS until the ownership issues at the Club have been resolved. It is obvious that it is not only fans who have problems with the way business is being conducted by the new owners, evidenced by the Football League's meeting and actions last week. The Trust Committee have already announced that they have a meeting arranged with John Gurney, Managing Director, in the near future, and are hoping that they will be able to get some answers to the questions that all fans are asking - who are the Club's new owners, when will they announce themselves, what financial backing is there, and can they ensure our future?
The Committee will also be communicating the Trust's aims to him: to have a say in the running of the Club (and eventually to do this via a Trust shareholding), to strengthen links between the Club and the community, to work for the success of the Club and secure its long term future.
In the meantime, until these issues can be resolved, the Committee urge supporters to CONTINUE TO PLEDGE the monies they would usually donate to the Club. Via an independent scrutineer, Trust members and other Hatters fans are pledging money they would normally send directly to the Football Club in payment for season tickets, replica kits, commercial sponsorships and so on - and the running total is already in the tens of thousands. The Committee realise that the deadline for renewing discounted season tickets is approaching, but ask fans not to be rushed into renewing until the questions asked by the Trust and the Football League have been satisfactorily answered.
The data provided by the pledge's scrutineer will be available for perusal, and a running total of the pledged money will be available on the website soon. Any queries about the scheme can at the moment be directed to the scrutineer via pledge@trustinluton.com. Fans unable to download a form from www.trustinluton.com can pick one up from the Customer Information point in the Arndale Centre or the racks in the Reference section of Luton Central Library, as well as other libraries in the borough.
