Trust in Luton Press Release

So a ‘storm in a teacup’ is it?

The FA statement detailing over 50 charges arising from the investigation into Luton Town Football Club and illegal payments to agents has left shareholder Trust in Luton stunned. Originally, the Trust was told by LTFC Chief Executive John Mitchell that there were only three charges, and then later this increased to 17 charges against the club itself, and numerous others against current and previous Directors, including Mitchell himself. Trust in Luton had no idea that the FA would find so much alleged wrongdoing at the Club. Liam Day, Chairman of the Trust said:

“We have been calling for transparency for months and months. It has been proved by the FA statement that we have not been crying wolf. Fans are angry that, yet again, the reputation of Luton Town is being called into question at a national level. This has, yet again, been brought about by the very people who are meant to be the custodians of our great Club. If these allegations are proved correct, we hope that the punishment is given to those individuals culpable in this debacle, rather than to fans who have played no part in this mess.”

“Fans that have supported this Club, through thick and thin, for many years are upset that we lurch from one major crisis to another. They’re rightly concerned for the future of the Club and what penalties will be dished out. Quite frankly, they have had enough of the spin and mismanagement over the past four years and if the individuals themselves won’t do the honourable thing, they want the Chairman to sort it out once and for all.”

Liam went on “Some people who have accused us of having a hidden agenda seem intent on destroying the Club themselves. Mounting losses, player sales, woeful treatment of fans and a trail of misconduct cannot be swept under the carpet by the recent spin coming out of the Club. They have been plying local media with such ill-conceived publicity for months but it is now time for everyone to demand genuine answers. Fans have lost all respect they had for these individuals. Their past mistakes are not only catching up with them now but the fear is that there is more to come unless they are removed.”

The Trust are making representations to the FA to implore them that, if found guilty, the individuals responsible should be punished and not the long suffering fans.

Liam finished by saying that the Trust AGM was packed with a far greater attendance than any of the recent PR attempts by the Club. It was abundantly evident that the entire room was unified in its opinion that enough is enough. They want an honest board without the characters that have created this mess, with clear ambitions, proper management, fan representation on the board and transparency. By doing this, the Board will be rewarded with the support of the wider fanbase.
