Thank you!
Trust in Luton would like to take this opportunity to thank everybody
who helped organise and participate in the events of Saturday 10th May,
which commemorated the 20th anniversary of Luton's Littlewoods Cup victory.
2020 deserve huge credit for organising such a successful event at
relatively short notice. This was another initiative which illustrates,
perfectly, that the club, finally, has people about to take over, who
understand the ethos, history and fan base of the club. I'm also pleased
to say that 2020 involved individuals from the Trust committee to help
organise certain aspects of the day and I would like to thank my colleagues for
their efforts.
It's pretty difficult to envisage the party-like atmosphere created on
Saturday being replicated at any other club after the two miserable
seasons we have just endured but Luton fans were, yet again, a credit as
they came out in large numbers to celebrate and to enjoy the
Luton v Arsenal exhibition game. It was particularly encouraging to see
so many youngsters in the ground who, obviously, would not have
witnessed that fantastic day 20 years ago.
It was great to see players from the 80's (and other eras) back gracing
the Kenilworth Road turf as, once again, we were reminded of some of the
superb talent that has passed through Luton Town FC during its recent history.
Some of them may be greyer, heavier and the legs weren't quite carrying
them but you could see that their football brains were still working
excellently and watching them again brought back a flood of brilliant
memories. As an aside, as you're probably all aware, the Luton XI
won the game 2-1.
Also, during half time, it was announced that the Family Stand would be
re-named the David Preece Family Stand. This is a superb gesture and I
can only applaud this decision, which was taken after consultation with
the Preece family (some of whom attended Saturday's game too). David
Preece was a hero of mine when I was growing up and this is a wonderful
tribute to the great man.
The evening event was held at The Auction House on Crescent Road. I'm
delighted to report that our President, John Moore, and his charming
wife, Pam, were our guests on the Trust table and it was a real pleasure to sit down
to dinner with them. The very warm way that both fans and ex-players
greeted John is testament to the huge amount of respect that people have
for the man. We are lucky to be able to call John the Trust's President
and I hope he continues in that role for some time to come.
It was also good to meet representatives of Luton United, Butch Fazal
and Adam Burgess. We hope to work closely with these guys
in the coming months and years, bearing in mind our youth and community
remit.
Despite everything that has happened over the last 18 months or so, the
atmosphere on Saturday was positive and celebratory and there was a
feeling that, although it might be a long road, the journey back to good
times will begin again, once we finally exit administration. It's a
view that I and the Trust committee share.
Up the Hatters
