Trust in Luton Press Releases
COMMITTEE RESPONSE TO MR JOHN GURNEY'S INTERVIEW
After Mr John Gurney's interview on local radio on Tuesday evening, the Trust in Luton committee welcome the news that he would like to meet with us to discuss the club's future.
As he stated, the Trust have been in contact with him via fax and post prior to the invite from our Secretary live on air, but contrary to his claim we have as yet had no response from him. We await his contacting us to arrange a date, a time and a neutral venue as invited as soon as possible.
COMMITTEE SEEKS CLARIFICATION FROM LEAGUE MANAGERS' ASSOCIATION
As Luton Town FC yesterday announced their shortlist for their Manager Vote innovation, the committee of Trust in Luton sought clarification from the League Managers' Association with regard to their official stance over this issue.
In an e-mail signed by Mr John Barnwell, the LMA's chief executive, the Trust has been told that the Association are "deeply concerned with several clubs' handling of the manager's position - one of which of course is Luton Town." Mr Barnwell went on to state that he expects to make a further comment in due course.
Two weeks ago after the sacking of Joe Kinnear, the LMA issued a statement on their website www.leaguemanagers.co.uk, in which Mr Barnwell was quoted as saying: "The way Joe Kinnear was dismissed by a consultant who was only at the club for a week, a chap called Miller, who reportedly - I only say reportedly because we have no evidence - was working as commercial manager for Northampton Town, gives cause for concern. He was at Luton for a week, he put his name to the letter that dismissed Joe Kinnear - we find that appalling."
He went on to say that the Manager Vote idea "brings the manager's contract and role into disrepute", and declared that, "It is staggering that these people are allowed to run football clubs."
COMMITTEE URGE SUPPORTERS TO WITHHOLD FUNDS
After Mr John Gurney's interview on local radio on Tuesday evening, the Trust in Luton committee would like to reiterate that we advise supporters TO CONTINUE WITHHOLDING MONEY FROM THE CLUB AT THE MOMENT.
The Trust in Luton committee perceive the threat of liquidation to be another scare tactic and would like to reassure everyone that the club cannot just be closed down, and urge supporters and sponsors not to renew before the new owners make their intentions clear. The date for discounted renewals remains 30th June 2003. We would also like to inform supporters that we are seeking legal advice and plan to issue a more detailed statement about this matter as soon as we can.
